The Executive Director of the Federation of African Youth Development (FOAYD), Abdul Rauf Abugri Mumuni, has criticised the 2026 budget for the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment, citing concerns over spending priorities and the absence of direct funding for independent youth organisations.
In a press statement, Mr Mumuni said the budget failed to adequately address the needs of more than 13 million young Ghanaians, arguing that greater investment was needed in youth employment, businesses and grassroots development.
He questioned government expenditure on administrative costs, allowances, foreign travel, consultants and workshops, while calling for greater transparency in the use of public funds. He also raised concerns about budget lines described as “Unspecified Policy” and “Unspecified Operations”, which he said lacked sufficient transparency.
Abdul Rauf Abugri Mumuni further criticised the Ghana Youth Federation (GYF), alleging that it had been ineffective since 2025 and had failed to engage adequately with grassroots youth organisations. He also accused the federation’s leadership of prioritising media appearances over consultations and practical initiatives to address the concerns of young people.
He argued that the lack of direct financial support for independent youth groups undermines their ability to mobilise young people, advocate for their needs and contribute meaningfully to national development.
Fedration Of African Youth development and it founder Abdul Rauf Abugri Mumuni, is therefore calling for a review of youth development funding, transparent monitoring of public expenditure and direct financial support for functional, independent youth led organisations.
“Ghanaian youth deserve real action, not political theatre,” Mr Mumuni stated, urging the government and relevant youth institutions to prioritise practical interventions that create opportunities for young people.
