ICAD-MOGA School Tour Begins at Christ Ebenezer Preparatory School in Accra

The International Convention of Africans in the Diaspora (ICAD), in collaboration with the Modern Gospel Awards (MOGA), has launched its educational school tour with a successful maiden session at Christ Ebenezer Preparatory School in Darkuman, Ablekuma North Constituency, Accra.

About 500 pupils from the Upper Primary and Junior High School levels participated in an engaging history symposium focused on the Transatlantic Slave Trade, its impact on Africa and the African Diaspora, and the importance of preserving Africa’s history and heritage.

The programme was officially opened by Nana Amo Baffour, Country Director of MOGA, who welcomed the students and introduced Frank Owusu Asiamah, Director of Programmes, ICAD, as the guest speaker.

Mr. Asiamah took the pupils through the history of the Transatlantic Slave Trade, explaining the forced transportation of Africans across the Atlantic and its lasting effects on African societies and the Diaspora. He also encouraged the students to develop a deeper interest in African history and become committed to preserving and sharing the stories of the continent.

The session featured interactive discussions, questions and reflections, creating an engaging learning environment for the pupils. The school warmly welcomed the ICAD-MOGA team and provided a well-organised setting for the programme.

The event also attracted significant media and organisational support, with the FOKA TV media crew, representatives from GhanaWeb and Modern Ghana News Agency, as well as Miss Debbielyn Jackson, General Manager of FOKA TV, in attendance.

The ICAD-MOGA School Tour forms part of an educational initiative aimed at taking African history, heritage, culture and identity beyond the classroom, while helping young Africans understand their historical connection with Africans in the Diaspora. The initiative also highlights the role of music in preserving history and cultural identity.

The successful programme at Christ Ebenezer Preparatory School marks the beginning of the school tour, which is expected to extend to other schools. Through the initiative, ICAD and MOGA seek to inspire young people to understand their history, value their heritage and appreciate Africa’s place in the global community.
