Nana Osae Nyampong VI Demands Reparation for Kamenaman After 70 Years of Neglect; Appeals to Government at Yam Festival

The Paramount Chief of Kamenaman Traditional Area, Nana Osae Nyampong VI, has made a passionate appeal to the Government of Ghana for reparation and accelerated development for the Kamenaman area after what he described as over 70 years of sacrifice and neglect.

Nana Osae Nyampong VI made the call when he addressed a grand durbar of chiefs and people during the celebration of the Kamenaman Yam Festival and Akwasiadae Kese* over the weekend.

The colourful festival, which attracted chiefs, queen mothers, citizens both home and abroad, and cultural enthusiasts, was graced by the Deputy Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Hon.Nana Oye Bampoe Addo as Special Guest of Honour.

In his keynote address, Nana Osae Nyampong VI said the people of Kamenaman have contributed immensely to the development of Ghana through their lands, resources and communal labour for over seven decades, but have little to show in terms of development.

According to him, for 70 years, Kamenaman has been deprived of major infrastructural development despite its historical sacrifices for the state.

"For 70 years, Kamenaman has given its all - our lands, our farm produce, our people. Today, we are not demanding favour, we are demanding justice and reparation. We are appealing to the government to look back and give Kamenaman what is due us," Nana Osae Nyampong VI stated to a loud applause from his subjects.

The Chief outlined key areas needing urgent government intervention, including:

- Construction and reshaping of deplorable farm and town roads
- Provision of a modern health facility and educational infrastructure
- Youth employment and support for farmers
- Formal recognition and compensation for communal lands used for national interest

He stressed that reparation does not only mean financial compensation, but deliberate investment to bridge the development gap between Kamenaman and other parts of the country.

"Our young men and women are leaving because there are no opportunities. Our yams rot on the farms because the roads are bad. If government truly wants to reset Ghana, then Kamenaman must be part of that reset," he added.

Responding to the appeal, Deputy Chief of Staff, Hon.Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, thanked Nananom for their warm reception and assured them that their concerns would be duly conveyed to the Presidency.

She reiterated President John Dramani Mahama's commitment to inclusive development under the Resetting Ghana Agenda and commended the people of Kamenaman for preserving Ghana's rich cultural heritage through the Yam Festival and Akwasiadae.

The festival ended with display of rich culture, drumming and dancing, pouring of libation, and thanksgiving for a bumper harvest, with a renewed call for unity and development for Kamenaman.
