Western Region Heads Of Zongo Chiefs Elects New Executives

The Western Region Heads of Zongo Chiefs has successfully elected new executives to steer the affairs of the Association for the next four years.

The election became necessary following the expiration of the tenure of the interim executives, whose one-year mandate ended in April 2026 after serving in accordance with the Constitution of the Association.

The election was held on Monday, 18th May 2026, at Tarkwa Zongo and was described as peaceful and successful.

All executive positions were filled unopposed except for the Vice President position, which was keenly contested between Sarki Mumuni Salifu, who previously served as Second Vice President, and Sarki Abubakar Musah Trauli.

At the end of the polls, Sarki Mumuni Salifu secured 12 votes out of 21 valid votes cast to emerge victorious, while Sarki Abubakar Musah Trauli obtained 9 votes. One spoiled ballot was recorded during the election process.

Per the Constitution of the Association, placing second in the Vice-Presidential contest automatically qualifies the candidate for the position of Second Vice President. Consequently, Sarki Abubakar Musah Trauli now assumes the office of Second Vice President.

The newly elected executives are:

• Sarki Ahmed Usman Maiwada Masala II – President
• Sarki Mumuni Salifu – Vice President
• Sarki Abubakar Musah Trauli – Second Vice President
• Sarki Shamsudeen Mohammed Tanko – Public Relations Officer (P.R.O.)
• Sarki Fussieni Seidu Saako – Organiser
• Sarki Umar Ahmed – Treasurer

The remaining executives were elected unopposed.

Speaking after his election as Vice President, Sarki Mumuni Salifu thanked the chiefs for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work closely with all executives and members of the Association to achieve its goals and objectives.

He further called for unity and reconciliation among members, stating that:

“I know that in my previous position as Second Vice President, I may have stepped on some toes and offended some people. I ask that we forgive one another and forge ahead in unity so that, as chiefs, we can collectively meet the aspirations of our people.”

Also addressing the gathering, Sarki Ahmed Usman Maiwada Masala II, Chief Zongo of Takoradi, who was retained as President of the Association, called on members to remain committed to the vision of the Association.

According to him:

“Our Association, Western Region Heads of Zongo Chiefs, is one of its kind in the whole of Ghana because it is only in the Western Region that Zongo Chiefs, who are heads of their respective communities, have come together to form an association to foster unity among us and pool resources together so that collectively we can bring progress and development closer to our people.”

He added that the Association has gained national recognition as one of the most unique and vibrant associations of Zongo Chiefs in Ghana, capable of championing the development of Zongo communities in the Western Region of Ghana.

Dawda Mohammed Kakale, who supervised the election, told the media that he was pleased with the peaceful and democratic conduct of the process, which brought to an end uncertainty surrounding the tenure of the interim executives whose mandate expired in April 2026.

The newly elected executives were subsequently sworn into office to begin their four-year mandate by Issah Mohammed, a member of the Council of Elders of the Association.
