Sudan’s displaced families face hunger and repeated displacement, Norwegian Refugee Council warns
People fleeing the conflict in Sudan are trapped in a cycle of worsening food insecurity, repeated displacement and lost livelihoods, according to Noah Taylor, head of operations at the Norwegian Refugee Council.
He says families are taking dangerous journeys across front lines and international borders in search of safety and stability. Around 13 million people are displaced outside Sudan, with many seeking refuge in neighbouring Chad and South Sudan.
Taylor says humanitarian assistance remains drastically insufficient, with major gaps in shelter, education, healthcare and food supplies.
Some families are selling their remaining assets or taking any available work simply to find enough food.
He says families continue moving between displacement sites and across borders in search of stability and food assistance.
