Methodist Church Ghana Calls For Action Against Illegal Mining

The Methodist Church Ghana has raised concerns over the continued destruction of arable lands and pollution of water bodies through illegal small-scale mining, describing the situation as a prophetic challenge to the Church's ministry and mission.
The concern was raised at the opening of the 52nd Conference of the Methodist Church Ghana, held at the St. Paul Methodist Church Cathedral at Tema Community 1, under the theme “Walking in the Word: Equipped for Every Good Work.”
Speaking at the opening of the conference on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, Most Rev. Prof. Johnson Kwabena Asamoah-Gyadu, urged religious leaders to take decisive action on issues affecting society.
He called for conference reports to be broad, thorough and prayerfully debated, with resolutions implemented in line with the Church's mission.
The Presiding Bishop also urged religious leaders to pursue ministry from a holistic perspective and respond meaningfully to pressing social and environmental challenges, including the impact of illegal mining.
