Traditional methods of measuring food commodities continue to influence Ghana's food economy decades after the adoption of the metric system.
According to findings from the Ghana Statistical Service's (GSS) maiden nationwide Non-Standard Units Survey (NSUS), the continued use of local measurement methods poses challenges for accurate price monitoring, inflation calculations, and agricultural data collection.
The survey highlights the need for improved standardisation of commodity measurements to support reliable economic data and strengthen decision-making in Ghana's food and agriculture sectors.
