Hundreds of Ghanaians seeking registration and renewal services have been left stranded as workers of the National Identification Authority begin an indefinite nationwide strike.
The workers, under the Public Services Workers' Union, say government has failed to improve their conditions of service despite repeated appeals, leading to the industrial action after the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum.
Across parts of the country, frustrated applicants arriving at NIA offices were met with notices of suspended services, leaving many unable to process or renew their national ID cards.
The strike is expected to affect critical public and private services that rely on Ghana Card verification until a resolution is reached.
