Spike in deaths in North Nigeria prompts virus probe
Health authorities said Wednesday they are investigating a fresh spike in deaths in northern Nigeria after a rise in fatalities in a neighbouring area was blamed on coronavirus.
Medics have reported scores of people dying over the past four days in the Hadeija district of Jigawa state.

Kenya, Uganda latest to receive IMF help against pandemic
The IMF on Wednesday approved a $739 million emergency loan for Kenya and $491.5 million for Uganda, as the East African countries deal with the coronavirus pandemic.
Both face severe economic shocks amid efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19, the Washington-based crisis lender said in announcing the latest fast-disbursing aid as it rushes to help countries deal with the economic impact of the outbreak.

Coronavirus worse for US than Pearl Harbor, 9/11: Trump
President Donald Trump said Wednesday the coronavirus pandemic has been worse for the United States than Pearl Harbor and 9/11 and renewed his criticism of China, saying the outbreak should have been stopped there.
As Germany unveiled plans for a return to near-normality -- including a May 15 restart of the Bundesliga -- the EU forecast a historic recession on the virus-battered continent.

Covid-19: Couple Test Positive In Ahwetieso
Mr Gilbert Kennedy Asmah, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), who made this known to the media at a press conference at Ahwetieso said the two patients are couples who reside in the Municipality and had no travel history outside the country.
According to him, on May 1, the 56-year-old man reported to a health facility within the Municipality and showing signs and symptoms that were similar to that of the COVID-19.

COVID-19 Cases In Sissala East Dangerous To Vulnerable Communities - Dr Abdulai
He said that was necessary because the five asymptomatic Covid-19 victims in the Municipality posed a serious risk to vulnerable community members.
Dr. Abdulai said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Tumu concerning the seven Covid-19 cases recorded in the Municipality.

Covid-19: 11 Out Of 200 Samples Test Positive In Ningo-pramram
Mr. Jonathan Teye Doku, District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Ningo Prampram District Assembly (NiPDA), noted that, about 800 samples were taken for testing out of which 200 sample results had been certified.
He further explained that, the District had set up a Covid- 19 emergency response unit, made up of the District health director, NADMO, heads of the Security service within the district, the district Ambulance unit among other important governmental parastatals within the Ningo - Prampram district.

Police Covid-19 Management Team Established To Support Frontline Officers – IGP
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), James Oppong-Boanuh says appropriate measures have been put in place to cater for police personnel at the frontline of Ghana’s COVID-19 fight.
Over 8,000 police officers have been directed by the IGP to self-isolate while their samples are tested.

Nandom: Inadequate Facilities To House COVID-19 Patients Hampering Fight
Inadequate infrastructure to accommodate persons confirmed and suspected to have contracted the Novel coronavirus in the Nandom municipality of the Upper West Region is hampering the fight against the pandemic in the area.
The Nandom Municipality has, so far, recorded 81 suspected cases of the COVID-19 with one confirmed positive diagnosis.

Covid-19 Three Runaway Test Positive
They have all been taken to the treatment centre at the Regional Hospital. This was contained in a statement signed by Dr Hafiz Bin Salih, the Upper West Regional Minister, and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Wa.
It said as at May 3, 2020, the region had recorded 11 new cases of the virus bringing the total cases in the region to 19, one person fully recovered and reintegrated into the community and with no death recorded.
