Communication Ministry pledges support for stronger digital governance
The Deputy Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations Mohammed Adam Sukparu has pledged the Ministry’s commitment to working with the Office of the Head of the Civil Service and the Information Technology and Information Management Association to strengthen digital governance across Ghana’s Civil Service.
Speaking at the Association’s 7th General Meeting on behalf of the sector Minister, Samuel Nartey George, the Deputy Minister said the Ministry would continue to drive initiatives in innovation, cybersecurity, interoperability, artificial intelligence readiness, digital inclusion, digital skills development and resilient infrastructure.
“These efforts are essential to building a Civil Service that is more efficient, transparent and citizen-centred,” he said.
Mr. Sukparu noted that Ghana is making progress in its digital transformation journey through investments in broadband connectivity, e-government platforms, digital financial services and national policies that govern the digital economy, data protection and electronic transactions.
The Government, he added, is also advancing the implementation of Ghana’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy and reviewing existing legislation to respond to emerging digital realities.
“Digital transformation succeeds because of people,” he said, urging IT and Information Management professionals to see themselves as “architects of Ghana’s digital future” rather than merely technology officers.
Mr. Sukparu stated their role in sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture, justice, local governance and public financial management.
The Deputy Minister commended the Association’s leadership for strengthening its governance structures, including the review of its constitution and election guidelines.
He encouraged members to embrace lifelong learning, research and collaboration with universities, development partners and other professional bodies to remain relevant in a rapidly evolving technological environment.
