Embracing Our Roots: Mother Tongue Education and Handcraft Innovation

Dear Honourable Haruna Iddrisu,
I am writing to express my thoughts on the curriculum in secondary schools. I believe that instead of making foreign languages compulsory, we should focus on promoting our mother tongue, Twi, and introducing practical skills-based education.

Practical Skills Education
Handcraft and Innovation: Incorporating handcraft work and innovation into the syllabus can equip students with valuable skills for the modern world.

Relevance: This approach can better prepare students for the job market and entrepreneurship opportunities.

Mother Tongue Education
Cultural Preservation: Prioritizing Twi in education preserves our cultural heritage and enhances communication within our communities.

Cognitive Benefits: Mother tongue instruction supports cognitive development and academic performance.

Foreign Languages
Elective Options: Offering foreign languages as electives allows students to choose based on interest or career goals.

International Perspective
Ghanaian Language Abroad: It's unlikely that foreign countries have made Ghanaian languages compulsory in their educational systems. Shouldn't we prioritize our own language and culture?

Thank you for considering my suggestions.

I'm inspired by power of words to educate, inspire, and connect people. I believe that effective communication can bridge gaps, foster empathy, and drive positive change. Let's unite for equality, justice, and human rights. Let's create a world where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
