Bible Society, friends refurbish Bible House

The Bible House in Accra has been refurbished at an estimated cost of 2.5 billion cedis raised by members and friends of the Bible Society of Ghana, in addition to a 100,000 dollar grant from the United Bible Societies.

The Reverend Kofi Owusu, General Secretary of the Bible Society, Ghana, said at the official opening of the refurbished Bible House that the project maintained the outside structure of the House, apart from two outside staircases, which were in bad condition, "We did not demolish anything."

The roof, partitioning, electrical wiring and fixture, windows and doors, honey comb wall, an extra entrance and split air conditions were new things added to the old Bible House, he said.

Rev. Owusu noted that the project did not record any major accident during the period, saying, "We are grateful to God for His goodness and mercies. His provisions ensured that we were able to pay each bill as it became due."

He however, said the society was still raising funds and called for further donations and pledges to help make the word of God accessible to all.

Mr. Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations, emphasized the need to make the scriptures affordable and available in the various Ghanaian languages.

He said people needed to be able to access the Bible and be able to read, urging members of the society to help teach people how to read and understand the Bible.

"People need to be able to read the word of God to be able to challenge the charlatans who deceive people with the God's word," the Minister said.

Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey also called on the Bible Society of Ghana to impact positively on the lives of people, especially those living in James Town, a suburb of Accra where the Bible House was situated.
