UMB Expresses Readiness To Lead Digital Banking
Ghanaian bank, UMB Bank, has been awarded 2018 Corporate Bank of the Year in Ghana by the London-based financial magazine, The European.
The award, the second consecutive honours for UMB Bank from The European, is in recognition of the bank’s entrepreneurial approach, innovative use of technology and its distinctive banking solutions.
Receiving the ‘ Global Banking and Finance Award for 2018 Corporate Bank of the Year Ghana’ on behalf of the bank last week, CEO of the bank, John Awuah, attributed the bank’s successes to the hard-working staff and dedicated customers.
“I will like to dedicate this award to our customers who are the reason we are still in business. We appreciate [them], and also to our staff for their hard work and making sure that we are able to excite our customers at all times. I would like to also thank The European for recognizing our hard work. I know that I will be here again next year to receive a bigger one,” he said at a short ceremony in London.

Mr Awuah accompanied to London by a delegation that included Director of Consumer and Business Banking, Mr Kevin Cain; Director of Treasury, Mr Kevin Adarkwah; and Director of Marketing and Communications, Ms Yvonne Botchey.
They also participated in the UK Ghana Investment Summit, and also took part in a BBC interview on Focus on Africa.
That summit was attended by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo together with several government functionaries as well as stakeholders from the business community.
“We are very much poised to take advantage of the opportunities that technology provides…statistics abound that the next frontier in banking is in people’s homes, their cars in their offices, in schools.
“If you are a bank that is poised for the future then you must invest today in the right technology to be able to be the partner for the future. At UMB, every cedi that we spend in the fiscal infrastructure, we spend ten folds in technology, making sure we are investing in technology. And technology being the delivery outlet for the future, we are very much in the space,” said Mr Awuah in an interview with The European’s Juliet Foster.
The bank recently launched its groundbreaking mobile application, the UMB Speed Up which has since been getting accolades for its appeal and the service offers it provides customers.
UMB Bank is a full-service financial institution specialising in customised banking products and services. The bank opened on March 15, 1972, and has become a leading indigenous bank with considerable financial expertise.
UMB Bank currently has 36 branches, three UMB Centres for Businesses, one UMB PPP Incubator Centre and a vast network of ATMs.
