Bring The Rampaging NPP Youth To Order

File Photo

The Youth Wing of the PNC is deeply worried and legitimately concerned about the recent spate of acts of violence and vandalism been perpetrated by the Youth Of the New Patriotic Party under the Presidency of Nana Akufo Addo.

Our dear nation Ghana has gained tremendous appeal for its peace and security all over the world. These are key virtues or attributes that have always attracted the attention of the global world thereby placing Ghana on a very high pedestal.

Unfortunately, the past ten months of NPP rule has witnessed a series of acts of lawlessness and vandalism brazingly perpetuated by the supporters of the NPP on a wide range of issues but mostly related to appointments and appointees. Notable amongst these acts are the attack on a High Court Judge in Kumasi, the manhandling of a Police Officer at the Flagstaff House, the locking up of various District Assemblies, the Locking up of School Feeding Offices etc.

As Party Youth, we had all along expected Leadership of the NPP as well as the relevant Government institutions and Functionaries to have shown a demonstrable commitment towards clipping the wings of the perpetrators of these acts.

However, their inertia is a manifestation that they are not bold enough or committed to their mandate to stand up to the NPP Youth across the country by calling them to order. We therefore deem it responsible and appropriate as youth within the PNC to sound a clarion call to the relevant stakeholders to sit up and tackle these issues as concerns of national security and citizens’ safety. Besides the fact that State property usually gets destroyed in most of these instances, the conduct of the NPP Youth poses a danger and a threat to vulnerable citizens who need to go about their business and daily lives in a sound and secured environment.

Our country has come a long way in the practice of Democracy and Good Governance. This can’t be the time to allow partisan political considerations to erode the gains that have been made by successive governments. Every single citizen of Ghana has an equal stake in the prospects of our dear nation and we wouldn’t sit aloof and allow elements within the New Patriotic Party and Government to jeopardize our security and safety.

We are by this statement calling on the Leadership of the NPP, the Ministers responsible for Defence, Interior and National Security as well as the Inspector-General of Police to take pragmatic steps to nib this lawless trend in the bud to forestall any further insecurity likely to be visited upon the citizens of Ghana.

We equally appeal to our colleagues youth of the NPP fraternity to as much as possible conduct themselves within the confines of the rule of law no matter the gravity or propriety of their concerns and grievances. Ours is a country of rule of law and that ought to be respected at all times by everyone irrespective of whether one’s party is in government or in opposition.
