Halt Politically Motivated Politicization Of Public Offices - DYF Appeals To Akuffo-Addo

It's crestfallen and on that very regrettable note,Democratic Youth Front(DYF) wishes to apprehend every available media particularly, the press to register our complete displeasure at the extent to which certain sensitive public offices are being reduced to a sort of partisan political witch hunting in our dear country by the Akuffo-Addo led administration. We believe this act is inimical to the development of strong public institutions as rightly emphasized by former president of USA, Barrack Hussein Obama .

Infact, we woke up one faithful day, specifically on the 10th of May,2017, only to be hit with a sad news contained in a letter signed by the minister of health, Hon.Kweku Agyeman-Manu (MP) and addressed to Dr. Anaba Thomas Winsum, the medical director of Greater Accra Regional Hospital,Ridge asking him to prepare and hand over to a new medical director to be announced soon to take over from him.The letter further stated that the victimised Dr. Anaba has been released to his original place of work,University of Development Studies, Tamale.

Indeed, listening to the ordeal of Dr. Anaba on Eye Witness News,we were horror-struck and felt terrified about the future of Ghana. This is a man who is highly qualified as per the records and got to his position by dent of hardwork and on merit, and has since moved with his family to Accra, acquired landed property cognisant of the fact that his contract with government was going to last for five years.Only to wake up one faithful day to be hit with the unfortunate news that he has been relieved of his post for no crime or fault of his but for reasons that a new government is now in power and need to put its people whether qualified or unqualified in such positions.(It's impotent to note that such official positions are not political).

The trial and political crucifixion of Dr. Anaba is just one among the many of such cataclysmic cases of politically motivated proceed on leave and hand over to acting or caretaker officer, concentrated worker transfer, involuntary termination, induced resignation and unfair release faced by many diligent public servants of our dear country ever since the government of Akuffo-Addo took charge of the affairs of this country.

Specific mentions can be made of the removal of the Administrator of District Assembly Common Fund, the governor of Bank of Ghana, Dr. Nashiru Issahaku who was forced to resign,YEA officers and the suspension of salaries for over four months now of workers(youth) employed under the Youth Employment Agency by the previous administration, massive dismissal of workers of the DVLA,CAG ad infinitum....

As a democratic youth group with a firm resolution to upholding the constitution and democratic principles of this country, and in the spirit of promoting an egalitarian society,we feel disappointed that these things are happening at a time when our country is striving for an "ALL INCLUSIVE GOVERNANCE SYSTEM".And more so that,it's coming from the very people that made the most noise about this 'All Inclusive Government' prior to the elections. The essence of an all inclusive government with all intent is clearly defeated because, we can't be seriously advocating for an all inclusive government, but are actively excluding people from public offices of particular interest to government.Worse still, this is happening at a time when over 26,000 public sector workers are being denied their legitimate salaries. As we speak, majority of these public servants have missed validation for this month again because their names haven't been captured for payment.

We are even more down in the mouth that, in this era of rule of law,not rule of men, and in the age of strengthened constitutional guarantee of Fundamental Human Rights and Freedoms, and the rights of workers, politicians are strenuously trying to unjustly expand the arsenals of the so called banana republic in our dear country. Chapter five(5) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana guarantees the Fundamental Human Rights and Freedoms of all citizens. Section 12 (2) specifically states that, "Every person in Ghana, whatever their race, place of origin, political opinion, colour, religion, creed, or gender shall be entitled to fundamental human rights and freedoms. "Section 17(2) ensures equality and freedom from discrimination on grounds of gender, race, colour, ethnic, origin, religion, creed, or social economic statues and 3 amplifies this to cover place of origin and occupation. The right to work, simply echoed!

We in Democratic Youth Front believe as per happenings in our dear country that things are falling apart...And in the words of Dr Mensah Otabil, "there seem to be a sinister force on the prowl of our nation. "There is therefore an urgent need to act.

We wish to on this humble note call on the clergy, civil society organisations, the media, the international community, and all well meaning Ghanaians to rise to the occassion of speaking and acting against these unfair practices now!

It's a cause to worry, and we take delight to also appeal to the president of the republic to take a re-look and halt the political motivated politicisation of our public offices to save our common future. We don't want this to degenerate into a situation where almost anything and everything in Ghana will be reduced to politics. Our society is already polarised enough, let's now build strong institutions by saving our public offices from such further cracks.

May the good Lord bless the youth and people of Ghana.

Happy holiday.
