Word Digest : Would You Be Like Rebekah? (2)

May nations serve you and peoples bow down to you. Be lord over your brothers, and may the sons of your mother bow down to you. May those who curse you be cursed and those who bless you be blessed.[Genesis 27:29] NIV

After Rebekah had eavesdropped her husband, Isaac's intention to bless their oldest son, Esau, she devised a strategy against Esau's blessings.

Rebekah reported the conversation to the younger brother of Esau, Jacob. She further instructed Jacob to hunt for a game - so that she might prepare a meal for Isaac. Then Jacob might get his father's blessing instead of Esau.

Previous to that, Esau was already on the field hunting for a game. When Rebekah was done with the meal, she ordered Jacob to put on Esau's finest garments and skins of a younger goat on his hands and on the hairless part of his(Jacob) neck.

As a result of Rebekah's eavesdrop, Jacob took away Esau's blessings. This is what eavesdrop does. It can lead one to do the very unthinkable towards a person.

Why would Rebekah work against his oldest son, Esau in favor of Jacob?

If you are a mother, father, sibling or a friend: would you be like Rebekah?

Be careful of what you hear and how you approach them.

God bless you for reading and sharing.
