Effutu fishermen receive out-board motors

Winneba (C/R) Sept. 16, GNA - Mr Francis A. Tagoe, the Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, has distributed 80 out-board motors to fishermen in the municipality at a ceremony held in Winneba.

The machines made up of fifty Yamaha 40 horse power and thirty Suzuki 15 horse powers out-board motors were to boost their fishing activities.

Each of the 40 horse power Yamaha machine costs GH ȼ 6,000.00 while the 15 horse power Suzuki machine also attracted a cost of GH ȼ 3,900.00.

Mr Tagoe said each of the machines should have attracted more than GH ȼ 10,000.00 but government paid 6o percent of the actual cost of each machine.

He said the payment of the 60 percent cost was in fulfillment of President John Dramani Mahama promise given to farmers and fisher folks during the last election campaign.

He said it is untrue that the percentage paid by the government on each of the machines would be deducted from various intervention government would give to the municipality for development.

While urging the beneficiaries to use recommended fuels such as the 'Premix Petrol' for the running of the machines, Mr Tagoe warned them not to resell the machine for a higher price to anybody.

He said anyone caught indulging in such acts would be dealt with drastically.

Mr Eric Don Arthur, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate, said the electorates should expect more development projects in the area after the NDC wins the coming elections.

He said amongst the projects to be expected is the long awaited fishing harbour at Winneba adding that he was campaigning to improve the lot of the people.

He appealed to all eligible voters in the municipality to vote him and President Mahama to power saying 'I promise to serve you very well when you give your mandate to me and I shall not Lord over you'.

Neenyi Moni Kaiko, Chief Fisherman of the area, commended the government for the support given them and appealed for more of such assistance.
