Communication Team Of NDC UK & Ireland Chapter Freeze Media Interactions In UK In Solidarity With Freedom Of Speech And Press Freedom In Ghana

The communication team of NDC UK and Ireland Chapter have resolved to freeze media interactions for a week to demonstrate our disagreement with the severity of punishment imposed on a journalist and two other panelists by the Supreme Court Judges Chaired by Justice Sophia A.B. Akuffo.

As much as we condemn attempt by any individual to scandalize, defy and lower the authority of the Court or bring the name of the Supreme Court into disrepute, we strongly believe that the jail sentences meted out to these three young men are disproportionate and a clear demonstration of abuse of power.

We are finding it difficult to understand why the host of Montie FM will also be jailed for four months for doing his job as a journalist.

This is unfair and undermines the freedom of speech and press freedom we have been boasting of as Ghanaians.

We will like to advice all NDC communicators both in Ghana and abroad to remain calm and pray for our Comrades.

Michael Frempong,
PRO, UK and Ireland Chapter.
