Ghana’s Security Experts Only Wake Up In Election Year
Ghanaians Abroad for Peace, Unity and Stability (GHAPUS) questions the motives and posture of our security services in providing a fair and level playing field for political parties to operate.We also question the seriousness of our so called security experts who keep quiet when atrocities are committed against members of opposition parties but wake up from their sleep when opposition parties takes steps to secure and protect themselves.
The current politicisation of our security services in particular the police and the internal security organisation the Bureau of National Investigations to serve the interests of the ruling National Democratic Congress rather than the National Interest is a dangerous development and will definitely undermine the peace and stability of the nation.
We disagree with Dr KwesiAning of the Kofi Annan Peacekeeping Centre and Mr Emmanuel Bombande of the West African Network for Peacebuilding on their position that providing and protecting oneself from harm using a private source is improper. In 2007 TheNational Democratic Congress brought in security advisors from Libya and Cubato train members of the JUNE 4TH Movement and the defunct Peoples Militia now rebranded into the United Cadres Front.These two groups were part of the security detail for the late professor John Evans Atta Mills.
This was organised by the late Rear Admiral(rtd)OwusuAnsah, Head of Security for the NDC’S 2008 Campaign .In 2008 Azorka Boys led by the current NDC Northern Regional Chairman SofoAzorkawhich still operational despite several calls for it to be disbanded, were given security and close protection training in Bawku under the watchful eyes of Colonel (Rtd) Pascal Ameyoh of the Afidava SecurityInsitutebased in Togo. This was organised by Yaw BoatengGyan,theformer National Organiser .We did not hear any complaints from Dr Anning and Emmanuel Bombande when these acts took place and neither was anybody harassed or arrested or had the human rights sabotaged.
Ghanaians Abroad for Peace ,Unity and Stability want know why Dr KwesiAnning and Emmanuel Bombandeonly come out to make soundbites only in election year, to put the ruling party in a good light and support the subversion of the constitution by President John DramaniMahama and the security agencies. These two experts support the bringing of terrorists and Al-Qaida operatives from Guatanamo Bay to be housed and fed millions of cedis in Ghanaat the expense of the poor Ghanaian taxpayer yet they will make noise on the desire of innocent political leaders to do more to secure and protect themselves from harm and be accountable to their supporters and Ghanaians.
