South Africa Airways celebrates flight to Washington DC

Accra, Aug. 3, GNA - A ceremony was held at the Kotoka International Airport, to usher in the passengers of the South Africa Airways direct flight from Accra to Washington DC on Sunday.

The ribbon cutting event was held at the terminal "2" just before the SAA passengers were checked in for the first flight scheduled to take off at 2245 hours on Sunday, August 2.

Addressing the ceremony, Mr Charles Asare, Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited said the journey to make Ghana the Aviation hub of West Africa had just started.

He congratulated the SAA for taking a bold step in that direction.

Mrs Zuks Ramasia, General Manager in charge of Global Operations said SAA was grateful to Ghana for the goodwill the Airline had received so far from stakeholders in the Aviation business in Ghana.

Madam Lulama Xingwana, South African High Commissioner was assisted by Mr Asare, Mrs Ramasia and Dr John Tambi a board member of SAA to cut the ribbon.

A water spraying ceremony was held on the tarmac to welcome the aircraft for the first flight.

About 166 passengers from Accra are travelling on the flight.
