Esoko Market Watch Week Ending July 4

Fresh Tomatoes

A crate of tomato on the wholesale began the first week and the month of July by decreasing in most of the markets.

In Accra it dipped by 60 percentage points to close the week at GHS 100.00 from last weeks GHS 250.00. Techiman closed the week at GHS 50.00 from last weeks GHS 63.00 representing a 21 percent dip. Kumasi also dipped by 8 percentage points to close the week at GHS 80.00 from last weeks GHS 85.00.

Dambai however showed a hike in price from GHS 150.00 last week to GHS 200.00 this week representing a 33 percent increase in price. Market watchers have attributed the reduction in prices to the supply of the local tomatoes to the markets and also to the short duration of its storage hence the constant decrease in prices across the markets.

In Dambai however the traders will have to move the commodity from the south to the place hence the high price.

On the retail market a kilo of the commodity was sold for GHS 3.00 in Accra from last weeks GHS 5.09 representing a fall of 41 percent while in Kumasi it was sold for GHS 2.00 from last weeks GHS 2.10 representing a fall of 5 percent. It gained 33 percent in Dambai to close the week at GHS 4.00 from GHS 3.00 last week.

Groundnut (Shelled)

A bag of groundnut was sold for GHS 396.00 from GHS 336.00 last week representing 18 percent increase in price. Tamale also recorded an increase of

14 percent to close the week at GHS 316.00 from GHS 276.00 last week and Techiman recorded a 6 percent increase in price to close the week at GHS 360.00 from GHS 340.00 last week.

The other markets remained the same. On the retail market a kilo of groundnut was sold for GHS 4.87 from last weeks GHS 4.10 representing a 19 percent increase at Dambai. On the Takoradi market the commodity went up by 5 percent to close the week at GHS 4.20 from GHS 4.00 last week.
