The heart that beats on two sides

The death of Queen Elizabeth II is a reflection of the history and values we want to see in time and space, especially in our own spaces. Listening to voices from Scotland and Australia questioning the meaning of the monarchy as a ruling or representative institution.

The voices are loud and clear. People want to have a change, and a say in their fate while the feeling of continuity in stability takes center stage. Stability and continuity are best to be reflected in laws and institutions but emotionless while human life in all its aspects depends on emotions to flourish.

Magna Carta of 1215 could not have expressed it more profoundly. Enthusiasts of Republic and Democracy see their chance to make a powerful statement of their beliefs while at the same time paying their respects to a woman who had selflessness served her country for 70 years as Queen and Head of State.

What seems to be impossible at a glimpse of an eye indeed had seen a raw model in history, to make what is a round square. Humans live not systems. Systems must match human needs, needs of values, and structures and institutions to reflect these values of nations. Laws have no faces, and no voices but are written words only. Human faces bring words to life and give them values, meaning, and essential emotions.

Elected, not inherited, Kingdoms of ancient Greece seem to be the answer needed in our ever-faster-changing time. Kings must be able to sustain themselves and not take any allowance or salary from the nation. This would make them truly independent and stand tall above all odds and uncertainties. Such free spirits can serve the nation's best while at the same time being grounded in the life of the people.

Africa seems to cry out for a change in the political process of the continent. What can be seen by critics as a move back into history in fact is a step forward into a much brighter future to let visionary generation thinkers take over the beacon of glorious victory.
