Sterling Wilson Akakpo Powers Al Ittihad Win Against Zamalek

Former Ghanaian international Wilson Akakpo featured for Al Ittihad Alexandria and scored his debut goal as they shocked Egyptian giant’s Zamalek 2-1.

Wilson who joined Al Ittihad from Al Masry this season played all 31 games for his new club and became the hero when he scored the match winner with 8 minutes remaining in the game.

The home team, Zamalek took the lead 1-0 in the 20th minute through Basem Morsi and held on till the half time.

Khaled El Ghandor however drew parity for Al Ittihad on the 79 minutes after a massive display.

It all looked like the match was leading to a 1-1 drawn game until Wilson Akakpo headed in what proved to be the match winner in the 82nd minute from a freekick.

An elated Wilson said he dedicates that goal to the fans and team mates as their efforts really paid off.

“It was looking like we were settling for a draw. We worked very hard to draw level and we told ourselves we won’t lose this game. When we won that free kick I told myself it was time to push harder and thankfully my header did the magic”.

“I dedicate this debut goal to the fans and entire team”.

Al Ittihad are 8th on the Egyptian premier league table with 39 points after 31 matches and have 3 more to end the season.
