President Akufo Addo Launches GNPC Ghana’ Fastest Human 2017
Ghana President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo was the special presidential guest at the fifth edition of GNPC Ghana’s Fastest Human which took place on Tuesday night at the Adidas House in Accra.
Launching the 2017 edition, HE Nana Addo said sports is the greatest thing to do to keep ones body in fitness form, and ghana has abundant sporting talent.
He expressed that it is time Africa and Ghana in particular stake a claim to annex the world 100meters which is dominated by Jamaicans and Americans.
The President, who donated 8 autographed trophies to the organisers commended Rex Brobby for his initiative and hoped throwing and jumping events would be added later.
He also praised companies supporting the private public partnership such as GNPC, noting that sports is not only about football.
Hon. Isaac Asiamah the Youth & Sports Minister hinted that there are plans to bring back memories of the past, with equal attention for all sports disciplines.
He announced that sports would be encouraged and developed at the grassroots and schools level.
Reks Brobby, the brain behind the project said God does not make mistake and knows the reason why it rained heavily a few minutes to the start of the programme, yet it came off with massive attendance and was very successful.
He pleaded that the President be known as “Mr. Legacy” as he has done many significant this within a short time in office.
According to Reks Brobby, a former ational athlete who did the sprints, he operates a credible ad transparent administration with their focus on 100meters, to get the best runners and formed the GNPC Ghana Speedsters Club with three athletes.
He thanked the companies supporting the programme like GNPC, Adidas, Moringa King, Pippas Gym, Red Sea Maritime, Indomie, Global Media Alliance, Kriate Lync and Wrenco Printing.
Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) President Ben Nunoo Mensah congratulated Reks Brobby and the corporate entities supporting the programme aimed identifying and giving recognition to athletes who excel in their field of endeavor.
The launch was graced by personalities such as Nene Nagai Kasa VIII, Paramount Chief of Agomeda & Former Minister of Tourism also known as Hon. Mike Gizo, Nana Prah Agyinsem IV, Paramount Chief of Assin Owirenkyi Traditional Area and Chairman of Ghacam Cement Foundation, Justice Alan Brobby, former Supreme Court Judge, former WBC boxing Champion Prof. Azumah Nelson, former IBF boxing Champion Joseph King Kong Agbeko, Mike Ahey, Ohene Karkari, Eben Okoe Addy, Sandy Agyeman, Coach Nukpeza, Dr. Dan McKorley, Dr. K.K. Sarpong Chief Executive of GNPC and others.
The Competition dates are scheduled as April 29 in Takoradi, May 27 in Tamale, June 17 in Kumasi, July 22 in Accra and the final of finals in Kumasi on September 16. The categories are Under 10, Under 15, Under 18 and the Seniors.
