Coincidence: Edwin Tuffour Frimpong played his first match for Kotoko just as his father Frimpong Manso
Asante Kotoko defender Edwin Tuffour Frimpong will count himself a lucky chap if he learns that he played his first game for Asante Kotoko just as his father did in a SWAG Cup game.
Tuffour, 22, played the entire duration of the game for the Porcupine Warriors in their solitary win over AshantiGold to annex the SWAG Cup.
Coincidentally, his father, who was a former player of the same club and now coach of Karela FC, Frimpong Manso also played his first game for the Porcupine Warriors in a SWAG Cup final with Okwawu United which they won by the same margin.
Frimpong Manso in 1978 was given his first starting role in the Kotoko set up in the SWAG Cup finals against Okwawu United which has been replicated by his son this year.
Edwin Tuffuor Frimpong last season played for Liberty Professionals and ahead of the 2015/16 league season, the 22 year old versatile defender switched camp to Asante Kotoko.
Tuffour Frimpong who has repeated exactly what his father did 28 years ago opened his historical account with a gold medal with the Porcupine Warriors in that game.
Speaking to GHANAsoccernet.com on the coincidence, Frimpong Manso acknowledged that it is a sign of good things to happen to the boy.
'I started with Kotoko with a SWAG Cup and we won by a lone goal against Okwawu. He has also also started just like me in a SWAG Cup final and they won by a lone goal. So it is a good sign.'
