CHAN 2016: Ghana crash out of qualifiers after losing to Ivory Coast

Ghana will not be featuring in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) finals for the first time since the inauguration of the tournament after losing out in the final round of qualification to Cote d'Ivoire.

The Black Stars lost 1-0 to the Ivoirians in Abidjan on Friday to go out on the away goal rule after winning the first leg 2-1 in Kumasi.

A 35th minute effort from AS Tanda striker Boua Koffi Davy ensured the Elephants became the 15th team to qualify for the CHAN finals which will be played in Rwanda between January 16 and February 07 next year.

Ghana were the losing finalists in the inaugural event Cote d\'Ivoire in 2008 and in the third edition in South Africa in 2014. They lost out in the first round in the second edition in Sudan in 2011.

The final spot for the championship will be decided today when Congo-Brazzaville and Cameroon clash in Brazzaville. The first leg ended goalless.
