Hometown: Ghanaian clubs capture the world through football names

The global appeal of football and its ability to engender diversity cannot be better encapsulated than in the monikers of football clubs in Ghana.

Hundreds of football clubs around the world will be surprised to know they have a twin in Ghana and Allsports.com.gh highlights on a few .

The famous hoops of Glasgow seem to have inspired a juvenile team in the Brong Ahafo region of Ghana who call themselves Sunyani Celtic.

Manchester United seem to be on the rise after two seasons of mediocrity  but their unwavering popularity still remains and nowhere can that be better felt than in Madina,a suburb in the capital Accra, home of Madina Manchester United.

The city rivals of the Red Devils also have become relevant after two titles in the past three seasons and a Division One team in the Upper regions of Ghana has picked up the name Bolga Manchester City.

Spanish speaking countries have a fondness for Deportivo which translates to 'sports' but that has not stopped one of the leading Division One teams based in the Ashanti region from naming itself Asokwa Deportivo.

German city Berlin has also found its soul mate in the Brong Ahafo region where Berlin FC reside.

North Africa is also represented heavily in Ghana football courtesy of mighty Tunisian club Esperance who have found affinity with Atebubu Esperance.

Not to be outdone from the cosmopolitan name mix,Turkish city Istanbul also have a team named after them while Tema New Town pays homage to Belgian giants Royal Anderlecht while the tiny town of Kade in the Eastern region have named their team after London aristocrats,Tottenham Hotspurs.
