15 goals: Nathaniel Asamoah proud of breaking personal scoring record
Medeama SC striker, Nathaniel Asamoah is in sheer ecstasy for chalking a significant achievement in his playing career in the domestic top flight football when he bettered his personal highest goal haul of 14 in the 2010/11 season with a brace against Bechem United on Wednesday to take his current goal account to 15.
Asamoah led the top scorers' chart with 11 goals in the first round of the league but had only scored two goals (against Heart of Lions in Week 19) in seven matches to hit 13 goals.
More so he was without a goal in five competitive matches both in the league and FA Cup before the Bechem game on Wednesday. Pressure was getting to him but he says he took the questions in good faith.
"From the onset, from Sunday's game (at Liberty) things didn't work to perfection for me but am the type of player who takes criticism and I work and I improve upon it.
"Both goals I scored was a well rehearsed goals from our training session because since we came from Accra, after very training session the coach take me on an individual and tactical work out so I think it really paid off and am really happy for getting my scoring boot back" he told Allsports.com.gh .
The local Black Stars striker blamed his inconsistent second round form to complacent attitude.
"You know when things are going well for a player sometimes you relax a little while, that's what happened," he said.
"Complacency or I was too sure of myself knowing everything is going smoothly for me so what I used to do before I wasn't doing but the coach has coached me, I realize am not doing the right thing at the right time and I've psyched myself up and I think it has really paid off" Asamoah revealed.
A goal in each half against Bechem Utd has now increased the former Red Star Belgrade player goals to 15 all for the Tarkwa based side which is one goal better than the 14 goals he achieved for both Wa All Stars (6 goals) and Asante Kotoko (8 goals) five season back.
He reckon it was his target to break his record this season.
"Yea this season I was looking forward for that. When I started playing and I scored 11 goals after the first round I said to myself this is the opportunity to break my personal record in the league season and it has come to pass."
