Equatorial Guinea imports new playing turf from Spain for Mongomo, Ghana's base for AFCON

The stadium in Mongomo, where Ghana will be based for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, will have a new playing pitch which will be imported from Spain.

Last minute hosts Equatorial Guinea has consulted a Fifa expert in management of lawns and has approved the decision to relay the pitch.

Group C will be point of attraction with Ghana, Senegal, Algeria and South Africa housed in the pool.

Matches in the Group of Death will start two days after the opening day on 17 January in Malabo.

Caf's director of communications, Junior Biyam said: “Training venues and competition fields will be of standard not later than January 7 – ten days before the kick-off of the [Afcon] competition.”

“Everything will be in place and lawns will be up to standard.

“We will need two weeks to make them [new lawns] usable.”
