Ex-egypt Goalie El-sayed Asks Pharaohs Not To Give Up

Ex Egypt goalkeeper Nader El-Sayed is urging the Pharaohs to keep up with the fight against Ghana despite their slim chances of World Cup qualification.

The seven-time African champions have it all to do in the second-leg of the ultimate qualifier towards next year's event in Brazil.

The Pharaohs must make up for a staggering 6-1 deficit suffered in the first leg to have any chance of qualifying to their first finals since 1990.

Many who believe the tie has already been won by the impressive Ghana team chose not to put any premium on the return encounter on Tuesday in Cairo.

But El Sayed who was adjudged the best goalkeeper on the continent in 1998 and 2000 is demanding a fight from the Pharaohs to at least end their very good campaign on a high even though qualification remains highly unlikely.

“We were expecting a normal result [in the first leg]; 1-0, 2-1, 2-2, maximum 3-1 so when Aboutrika scored the penalty we thought that was going to be the normal result,” he told Metro FM.

“But then we finish with a 6-1 result and nobody thought about that.

“My advice to the national team is to fight and fight and fight.

“In football, you never know but even if we can't score 5-0 we should fight to leave the competition with a respectable result.”

El Sayed is noted for his heroic penalty saves to deny Asante Kotoko an African title while with Zamalek in 1993.
