Ghana Swimming Association Cries For Help
General Secretary of the Swimming Association of Ghana (SAG), Mr. William Kyei has expressed worry about the insufficient of funds from corporate bodies to help meet its association objectives.
According to him, despite the associations great performance put in by the athletes recently, yet its still lack financial support from entities.
The former General Secretary for the Ghana Cycling Association dropped this hint in an interview with this reporter via phone in Accra.
Dilating on the performance of female swimmer, Ophelia Swayne who took gold medal in 50 metres butterfly strokes in a time 0f 29.23 seconds, silver with a time of 1:02 seconds in the 100 metres butterfly free class at the just ended Nigeria swimming youth championship, Mr. Kyei described such a feat a step in the right direction.
Not long ago as part of its long time plan, the association organized an activity at the University of Ghana Legon which discovered talents like Paa Kwesi Jackson, Kweku Addo including Ophelia Swayne from the Tesano swimming club who where then taken to Barcelona, Dubia just to mention a few to get international exposure ahead of both 2014 Olympic Youth Games in China and the 2016 Commonwealth games in Scotland, he added.
Mr. Kyei stated that the next target for Ophelia Swayne will be at the African Youth Swimming tournament in Zimbabwe slated this November, 2013.
”For the association to achieve another significant feat we need more than U$$ 25,000 (GH¢ 50,000.00 plus) to carry our earmarked training activities and competitions as well” he noted.
Mr. Kyei therefore appealed to corporate bodies to assist in the growth and expansion of the sport.
