Tampa Bay Rowdies Ghanaian Midfielder Frimpong Shines With Formation Change

Since the Rowdies switched to a 4-3-3 formation,  in-form Ghanaian midfielder Evans Frimpong has excelled offensively.

He has scored two goals in his last two matches, becoming one of Tampa Bay's main offensive threats in the NASL Fall Season.

“The tactical change has shifted me forward on the field,” commented Frimpong. “When Ricky told me he was moving me up top I knew I had to start scoring more goals. The way we are playing now fits perfectly with my class of play.”

When the 2013 season began, Frimpong saw himself outpacing players but he would be unable to make an impact on the games. After Week 7 of the NASL Fall Season, he has proven to be a key component of the Rowdies offensive third.

“He was struggling earlier this year to demonstrate his talents on gameday,” explained Rowdies Executive Vice President and Technical Director Perry Van Der Beck. “Over the course of the year he has constantly grown as a player and it has really shown on the pitch. He is now influencing the outcome of recent matches and we are pleased with his success.”

Frimpong joined the Rowdies in May of 2012 but his limited playing time did not allow him to show his abilities on the field. This season has been different, with Head Coach Ricky Hill relying on the midfielder to play a key role in the Rowdies attacking third.

The Tampa Bay Rowdies were defeated by FC Edmonton 2-1 on Sunday night at Clarke Stadium in Edmonton, Alberta.

The are winless in their last three away matches, while next week they return home where they are currently on a four-game winning streak.
