Kotoko in last gasp win

Kotoko players celebrating their late win

Kotoko players celebrating their late win Bechem United had their relegation troubles further aggravated at the Baba Yara Stadium when Asante Kotoko thumped them 4-3 in their Glo league tie.

The visiting team knew they were going into a tough schedule, but the defeat was heartbreaking for a side that played well and created some good chances in the second half.

Against the run of play, United fired ahead on the fifth minutes when Reginald Asante finished off a stormy action in the Kotoko area.

The few fans in the stands were astounded by the early goal but it did not take long for the Porcupine Warriors to level up as Ahmed Toure fed on a Nii Adjei left sided cross on the 12th minute.

Gideon Baah on the left back and Yaw Frimpong on the right back pushed forward and Baah was unlucky on the 16th minute as his effort only hit the near post with keeper Maxwell Fiifi Eshun struggling to grab.

Appearing more aggressive, Kotoko would not be denied a goal a minute later when young Augustine Okrah sent in cracking 30-yarder past the goalkeeper into the roof of the net.

Occasionally Kotoko appeared vulnerable at the back, but United wasted two clear opportunities within the 28th minute.

As the pendulum swung from one end to the other Richard Yeboah should have upped the tally for Kotoko, but he only decided to cut the ball back when he had the post in front on him.

Ten minutes from recess Ahmed Toure exhibiting incredible pace and power went through two defenders to whip the ball beyond the onrushing keeper Eshun for Kotoko’s third goal.

When all appeared finished for United, they showed class with Reginald Asante securing a hat trick, with two more goals on the 58th minute and 71st minute (penalty).

The rains set in disrupting ball control but Kotoko who were on top of the business, carried the day with a 77th minute goal from Daniel Nii Adjei.

Disaster struck Kotoko five minutes from the end the game when Toure was carried off following a tackle from an opponent.
