Tigo Pays Insurance Claims Through Mobile Money

Carlos Caceres - CEO of Tigo Ghana

Tigo Ghana is currently paying insurance claims through its mobile money platform Tigo Cash, under the Tigo Family Care Insurance product.

Since last week, claimants have been receiving their insurance cash directly on their phones and withdrawing them from any Tigo Cash Agent or Tigo Customer Service Centre nationwide.

Tigo Family Care Insurance is a life insurance offer from Tigo and Vanguard Life that provides cover to subscribers in the event of the death of the subscriber or family member.

The insurance ranges from GH¢200 to GH¢1,000 depending on the customer's monthly airtime usage.

Tigo and Vanguard Life have paid more than 100 insurance claims to Tigo Family Care Insurance subscribers.

The insurance claims are paid within 72 hours after receiving all required documentation, and Tigo is now taking this promise of fast and reliable insurance claims delivery one step further by facilitating the payment of claims through the Tigo Cash platform.

To qualify for the service, customers are required to spend a minimum of GH¢5 of Tigo airtime per month, no additional payment is needed.

For customers that wish to get higher insurance levels, Tigo recommends its Xtra-Life insurance product, where by agreeing to pay 5Gp per day, customers who have already signed up for the free coverage will double their benefit in the event of a loss of a nominated family member.

Selorm Adadevoh, Head of Mobile Financial Services, stated that 'with customer experience as Tigo's top priority, paying out insurance claims through Tigo Cash has helped Tigo Family Care Insurance continue to demonstrate steadfast commitment to its promise of paying claims within 72 hours.'
