Nania Win Super Cup
Abedi Pele's Nania FC confirmed their superiority over Berekum Chelsea when they defeated the latter 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 regulation scoreline in the first Alhaji Sly Tetteh Super Cup played at the Accra Stadium yesterday.
It was Nania's second win over the Blues, having shown them the exit at the semi-final stage of the FA Cup, which they eventually won when they beat Kumasi Asante Kotoko 1-0.
Before the match, Chelsea vowed to avenge the defeat they suffered at the hands of the Division One campaigners. Indeed, Orlando Wellington, assistant coach of Chelsea FC at a press conference to launch the one-off match on Friday, said his outfit was on song after claiming the G8 Cup adding that Nania could not spoil their party.
'We cannot lie low to succumb for the second time to Nania. Another defeat will make our League triumph a ruse,' Wellington said.
But Nania ran away with yet another victory over the Berekum team to become the Champion of Champions in Ghana.
A few weeks ago, bankroller of Nania, Abedi Pele, resorted to playing mind games, saying his charges were fatigued and might not play the Super Cup.
But they came out strongly in yesterday's game, opening the scoring in the first half through Eben Osei. In the latter part of the second half, Abdul Basit equalized for Chelsea, leaving the game to be decided on penalties. And like it happened in the semi-finals of the FA Cup, Nania beat the Berekum club on penalties.
