Zone 2 Middle League Starts July 20
The last team for next season’s Premiers League will be known by the close of Wednesday, July 27, 2011 when the final matches of the Zone 2 Middle League will be cleared.
This follows the announcement by the Division One League Board of the Ghana Football Association that the Middle League for the zone would start on Wednesday, July 20 after the Board declared Tarkwa United as the last candidates for the four-club competition.
They join Wasaman, Deportivo and Dunkwa United for the one-week competition which will be played in Accra and Tema.
Tarkwa United were engaged in a dog-fight with Eleven Wise for the final slot for the competition until a ruling by the Appeals Committee of the GFA handed Tarkwa United the upper hand and put them beyond the reach of Wise, even if their controversy-laden final league match goes in Wise’s favour.
The two clubs had played a 1-1 drawn match at Dompim at Wise’s adopted home when they served a ban from home, but the Appeals Committee last Friday awarded maximum points to Tarkwa United and ducked Wise three more points as the Committee faulted Wise for some anomalies.
The DOL Board, however, said the case of the abruptly-ended match between Tarkwa United and Wise which ended on the 73rd minute when Wise refused to continue play as they cited a fear for their security would still be heard by the Disciplinary Committee.
Wise had lodged a protest after the match, but withdrew the protest this week, insisting that the match “concluded fairly and that the match ended 1-0 in favour of Tarkwa United”.
