Mine Stars pay for fans' madness
In what can be described as an unprecedented disciplinary measure ever to have been taken by the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association, former premier league side, but now Division One team, Prestea Mine Stars have been handed a ban that compels them to play two home matches behind closed doors.
The ban is the direct result of crowd troubles at a league match on 19th January involving Mine Stars and Dunkwa United at Prestea, which ended 1-1. During the game, fans of Mine Stars attacked the referee, Stone Wosey and his assistants, Ben Samari and Seth Kwofie.
The fans inflicted wounds on the three match officials, and for their conduct, Mine Stars was charged under Article 35 (4) of the GFA regulations.
In addition to the ban, Mine Stars have been fined GH¢ 2, 000.00 out of which they are to pay GH¢ 600.00 to the match officials to offset their medical expenses.
