Ukrainian referee given lifetime ban
Ukrainian referee Oleh Orekhov
Ukrainian referee Oleh Orekhov has been given a lifetime ban after the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled the referee had been involved in match-fixing.
Orekhov had 'repeated contacts' with members of a criminal group involved in match-fixing and betting fraud, and CAS chose to uphold UEFA's original decision.
The referee's case centered around the 43-year-old receiving approximately €50,000 to manipulate a Europa League match between Basel and CSKA Sofia in November 2009.
'The CAS panel concluded that…a life ban from any football-related activity was a proportionate sanction,' the court said in a statement, as reported by AP.
