Badminton: 22 selected ...For Africa youth championship

After a two-day rigorous justify-your inclusion exercise at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra, 22 junior badminton players last Saturday were selected for camping beginning February 3-15.

The 22, will further be pruned down to 12 after the camping exercise, who will then fly out of the country on February 16 for the championship scheduled for Uganda, from February 17-28.

The selected players are Stella Amassah, Linda Osei, Georgina Arthur and Dian Archer for the girls U-19, while Emmanuel Donkor, Ahmed Merigah, Victor Sakyi and Alfred Owusu got the nod for the boys U-19 category.

Theresa Tetteh, Mary Enoo, Evelyn Botwe and Martha Forson qualified for the women's category, with Solomon Nyarko, Noah Ayim, Mrtin Owusu, Felix Amissah and Mike Sam were selected for the men's division.

The rest are Daniel Sam, Daniel Aryee, Eric Ata Ninkyi, Ebenezer Essel and Lawrence Asare. According the Secretary General of the Ghana Badminton Association Mr. Ignatius Elettey, who described the exercise as a success, six males and six females will be selected for the Ugandan championship.

Mr. Wolanyo Agra, the acting chief executive of the National Sports Council charged the players to give their best shot and to those who failed to make the mark, he urged them to esteem training for future championships.
