Kotoko against live TV telecast
Asante Kotoko want the live telecast of their home matches in the Glo Premier League be stopped following the huge financial repercussion on the club.
The Porcupine Warriors say attendance at the Baba Yara stadium has dropped considerably and wants the football authorities to either rebroadcast their matches or put a stop to the live telecast on South Africa-based Pay TV channel Supersport.
All three home matches of the Kumasi-based club have been telecast and the club say the financial implications are unbearable.
"In as much we appreciate that showing our matches on Supersports is good platform to sell our club to the rest of the world, we are suffering in terms of finance," the club's communication director Ali Maradona said.
"Our fans are not attending our matches anymore and the amount of money that we receive as television rights are not sufficient.
"We receive the same amount of money with the clubs when we play at home and that doesn't make economic sense to us and therefore until we get the large share of the money from the television rights."
Kotoko play at home to King Faisal in a local derby at the Baba Yara Stadium this Sunday.
