Spirit is high for South Africa– Keet
Darren Keet says team spirit was the key to Amajita's recovery in their final group match at the Under-20 World Cup – and it will again prove crucial when they face Ghana in the knockout stages today.
“I think overall we have played very well and we managed to score goals. This is because the guys have been playing together for a long time,” Keet tells KickOff.com from Egypt.
“You see, if you train and play together for such a long period everything just falls into place as it did in the final game. Our spirit is high and we need to keep it this way now.
“We messed up a bit in the first game throwing away a 2-0 lead and to make matters worse we lost against Hungary. But we knew that after the Hungary loss the only way to redeem ourselves and to gain our supporters' belief in us was to win the last group game against Honduras.”
The Bidvest Wits goalie says Amajita learnt from their mistakes and that if you don't utilise your chances “you will be punished”.
“We told each other that we are going out there to score goals and win the game while at the same time making it tight at the back,” he says.
