Ghanaian Boxers Make American Debut

All looks set for the much-anticipated boxing bouts that will take place at the Robert Treat Hotel at Newark, New Jersey, USA, on Thursday April 17, 2008.

The bouts have two Ghanaian pugilists Joshua Okine and Albert Mensah making their American debut, with the former fighting in the main event.

Joshua Okine nicknamed 'Bukom Tastsu', with a record of 18-3-1-12 KOs, faces Doel Carrasquillo from Lancaster, PA, in the welterweight division in an 8-round contest.

Albert Mensah, a Lightweight who holds a record of 15-3-1-6 KOs, is nicknamed Tornado, and his opponent is yet to be named.

Another African boxer, Moebi Sarouna from Togo, a Featherweight pugilist also making his American debut with a fight record of 16-5-9 KOs, is also yet to have his opponent named for a 6-round bout.

Francisco Rodrigues from Puerto Rico faces Juan Manuel Dominiguez, both in the Bantamweight division.

The Heavyweight category will see Tyyab Beale from Orange, New Jersey, fighting against Derrick Allen from Wilson, NC.

"This is a historical event in my lifetime; one in which I have three African fighters, two of which are from the same country, on the same fight card. I am happy that I have been able to bring them to a better place, where they can get more recognition for being great fighters," stated Karriem Abdallah, Promoter.

"The fighters dream was to come to America and I made that dream a reality. I believe that America is the land of dreams.

Ultimately, when the sanctioning body witnesses the fighting ability of these boxers, I hope that they will agree that these fighters are worthy of being put in the boxing rankings," Abdallah added.

The competition is put up by Karriem Abdallah Productions LLC, with sponsorship from Coors Light and WM.S Rich & Sons, Inc.
