Losing to Swedru All Blacks very painful – Interim Kotoko coach Hamza Obeng

Interim Asante Kotoko head coach Hamza Obeng has described his side’s 1-0 defeat by Swedru All Blacks as painful, admitting that his players struggled to maintain control in their build-up play.

The Porcupine Warriors suffered the setback at the Swedru Stadium on Saturday in their Matchday Six fixture of the Ghana Premier League.

After a goalless first half, the hosts secured all three points through Wiafe Darkwah, who converted a late penalty after Kotoko left-back Patrick Asiedu fouled Baah Junior inside the penalty area.

Speaking after the match, Obeng acknowledged his team’s shortcomings and vowed to address the mistakes ahead of their next fixture.

“It’s a very painful defeat, and I will say we will go back to the boardroom and correct our mistakes. Today we couldn’t get much control with our buildup. We kept losing the ball in our build-up, and that didn’t help us,” he said.

The interim coach urged his players to learn from the defeat, focusing on improving their weaknesses while building on the positives from the performance.

“It’s part of the game, so we will take it in good faith, work on the negatives, build on the positives, and we will take it from there,” he added.

The defeat leaves Asante Kotoko ninth in the Ghana Premier League standings as they look to regain momentum in the competition.

Kotoko will seek an immediate response when they host Young Apostles at the Baba Yara Stadium in their Matchday Seven fixture, with Obeng’s side aiming to return to winning ways.
