Black Stars: Five-member search committee to submit report to Sports Ministry today
A five-member committee tasked with recommending a successor to Carlos Queiroz as Ghana head coach is expected to submit its report to the Sports Ministry today.
The committee was established last week following a meeting between the Ministry of Sports and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) after Queiroz stepped down from his position as Black Stars coach.
The Portuguese left the role after Ghana suffered consecutive defeats in their opening two matches of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
The Black Stars lost 2-0 away to Ivory Coast before suffering a 4-2 defeat by The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium, leaving them bottom of Group C without a point.
The committee is chaired by former GFA vice-president Fred Pappoe and includes former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah, Faisal Chibsah and Agbesi Dzakpasu.
Following the submission of the report, the Sports Ministry and the GFA are expected to deliberate on the recommendations before deciding on a successor to Queiroz.
Meanwhile, reports in the local media suggest Ghana could appoint an interim coach for their November doubleheader against Somalia before naming a substantive head coach.
Former Ghana international Godwin Attram and Ibrahim Tanko have emerged as leading candidates for the interim position, according to the reports.
The two matches against Somalia, scheduled to be played at the Accra Sports Stadium, will offer the Black Stars an opportunity to revive their qualifying campaign.
Ghana are under pressure to secure a place at the 2027 tournament after failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
That failure marked the end of the Black Stars' run of consecutive appearances at the continental showpiece, having featured in every edition since 2008.
With qualification for the 2027 tournament now in doubt following their difficult start, the appointment of a new coach is expected to be a key step in Ghana's efforts to get their campaign back on track.
