Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram considered for interim Black Stars role for Somalia qualifiers

Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram are among the candidates being considered to take charge of Ghana's Black Stars on an interim basis.

The move follows the resignation of Carlos Queiroz after Ghana's disappointing start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

A five-member committee has been tasked with recommending a new coach, with the group expected to submit its report on Friday, 9 October.

According to a report by 3Sports, Medeama head coach Tanko and current Black Stars assistant coach Attram are among the names being considered for the interim role.

Both candidates have previous experience within Ghana's national team set-up.

Tanko has served as an assistant coach of the senior national team and previously managed the Black Meteors, Ghana's under-23 side. Attram, meanwhile, is already part of the Black Stars' technical team.

The decision comes with Ghana facing an important double-header against Somalia in November as they attempt to revive their qualification campaign.

The Black Stars began their campaign with a 2-0 defeat by Côte d'Ivoire before suffering a 4-2 home loss to The Gambia, despite taking a two-goal lead in Accra.

Those results have left Ghana without a point from their opening two matches and under pressure to improve their results in the remaining fixtures.

Ghana are seeking to qualify for the 2027 AFCON after missing the 2025 tournament in Morocco.

Following the November fixtures against Somalia, Ghana will not play another AFCON qualifier until March 2027, when they are scheduled to face Côte d'Ivoire and The Gambia in their final two matches.

That gap could give the committee additional time to assess potential candidates before a decision is made on a permanent successor to Queiroz.

For now, the focus is expected to be on appointing an interim coach capable of guiding the Black Stars through the November qualifiers while the longer-term coaching plan is considered.
