Black Stars: Interim coach expected to lead Ghana in Somalia AFCON qualifiers
Ghana are expected to appoint an interim coach to lead the Black Stars in their upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Somalia.
The five-member search committee tasked with finding a permanent successor to Carlos Queiroz is expected to recommend an interim appointment when it submits its report on Friday, 9 October.
According to 3Sports, the interim coach will take charge of both matches against Somalia in November before the Ghana Football Association (GFA) appoints a substantive head coach.
The committee, chaired by former GFA vice-president Fred Pappoe, was established by the Sports Ministry and the GFA following Queiroz's resignation last week.
Pappoe is joined on the committee by former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah, former Ghana international Anthony Yeboah, Faisal Chibsah and Agbesi Dzakpasu.
The committee's mandate is also expected to be extended after it submits its initial recommendation on Friday, allowing it to continue its work towards identifying a permanent coach.
Queiroz stepped down after Ghana suffered defeats in their opening two Group C matches of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
The Black Stars lost 2-0 away to Ivory Coast before surrendering a two-goal lead in a 4-2 defeat by The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Those results leave Ghana bottom of Group C without a point from their first two matches.
The Black Stars are seeking to return to the AFCON after missing the 2025 tournament in Morocco, ending a run of appearances at the competition that stretched back more than two decades.
