Thomas Partey granted leave by Al Shabab after father's death

Al Shabab have granted Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey special leave to return home following the death of his father.

Partey's father, Jacob Partey, died last week after a short illness.

The Saudi Pro League club expressed its condolences to Partey and his family, wishing them strength and patience as they mourn their loss.

Partey joined Al Shabab on 12 August after the Riyadh-based club secured the signing of the experienced midfielder to strengthen its squad.

The 33-year-old is expected to bring considerable experience and physical presence to Al Shabab's midfield after a career that has included spells with Atlético Madrid and Arsenal.

Partey began his European career in Spain, where he also played for Villarreal, before establishing himself in the Premier League with Arsenal.

He spent last season at Villarreal, making 32 appearances in all competitions without scoring or providing an assist.

His move to Saudi Arabia marked the latest chapter in a career that has seen him play at the highest level of European football.

Al Shabab will now allow Partey time with his family in Ghana as he mourns the death of his father.
