I am looking forward to a successful season - Richard Boadu after returning to Asante Kotoko on two-year deal
Asante Kotoko have confirmed the return of former captain Richard Boadu ahead of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season, with the midfielder signing a two-year contract following the successful completion of his medical examination.
The 27-year-old rejoins the Porcupine Warriors three years after leaving the club for Libyan side Al Ahly Benghazi in July 2023.
Boadu enjoyed a successful first spell at Kotoko, helping the club secure its 26th Ghana Premier League title before later being appointed captain. He made 32 appearances across all competitions, including the CAF Champions League, and scored two goals.
Speaking after sealing his return, Boadu expressed his delight at rejoining the Kumasi-based club.
“I was born and raised in this city, played for the club at youth level and becoming a captain at some stage was everything to my family,” he said.
“Fate has a way of working out, and I am grateful that it has given me another chance to wear these colours again to defend the club.
“I am looking forward to a successful season.”
After leaving Kotoko, Boadu featured for Al Ahly Benghazi before moving to fellow Libyan club Al Tahaddy Sporting Club, where he made 21 appearances and scored once during the 2024-25 campaign.
His return is expected to strengthen Kotoko’s midfield as the club prepares for the new season under head coach Eric Tinkler.
Kotoko will begin their 2026/27 league campaign with an away fixture against newly promoted Debibi United, with Boadu likely to play a key role in the team's ambitions for the season.
