Kwesi Nyantakyi, George Afriyie, Abedi Pele and Ayews join Asamoah Gyan in mourning father
Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kwesi Nyantakyi, football legend Abedi Pele and the Ayew family were among the leading figures from Ghanaian football who joined Asamoah Gyan to mourn the death of his father, George Gyan Mensah.
The one-week memorial observance took place on Friday at the New Gbawe Cluster of Schools AstroTurf in Accra, drawing relatives, friends, former players and football administrators in a show of support for the Gyan family.
Abedi Pele attended the ceremony alongside his sons, former Black Stars captain Andre Ayew, Jordan Ayew and Rahim Ayew.
Andre Ayew shared an emotional embrace with his former Ghana team-mate Asamoah Gyan as he offered his condolences during the gathering.
Former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah was also among those present, while current GFA president Kurt Okraku paid his respects by signing the book of condolences in honour of the late George Gyan Mensah.
Nyantakyi, who led the Ghana Football Association for more than a decade, was also among those who visited the family to offer their sympathies.
The gathering brought together several generations of Ghanaian football personalities, reflecting the strong bonds formed within the Black Stars over the years.
George Gyan Mensah was the father of former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan and his brother Baffour Gyan. Since news of his death emerged, tributes have continued to pour in from former teammates, football officials and supporters.
The one-week observance forms part of the family's funeral arrangements as Ghana's football community continues to rally around the Gyan family.
