Asante Kotoko will sign experienced foreign players, says head coach Eric Tinkler
Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler says the club is looking to strengthen its squad with experienced foreign players as preparations continue for the 2026-27 Ghana Premier League season.
The South African was appointed to lead the Porcupine Warriors following a disappointing campaign and has already begun reshaping the squad ahead of the new season.
Kotoko's preparations received a boost on Tuesday when they secured a 1-0 victory over Heart of Lions at the University of Ghana Stadium in a pre-season friendly.
With several players already departing the club, Tinkler revealed that extensive scouting work has been carried out in recent weeks to identify suitable additions both locally and abroad.
“We needed to do a lot of scouting over the past three, four weeks; you know, it’s been pretty tough for Stanley and myself because we haven’t had much sleep," Tinkler told Asante Kotoko media.
“Looking at so many videos of players both locally and obviously internationally and looking to strengthen the team, and when that happens, obviously it does take a knock-on effect in terms of creating that solid foundation that I was speaking about when it comes to the physical necessity of the game."
The former Cape Town City and SuperSport United coach suggested that supporters can expect several new arrivals before the transfer window closes.
“So a lot of new faces, a lot of foreign-based players, they come with a lot of experience as well, which I think is very important.
"There is one or two surprises that are coming in terms of our signings, and I think you are going to see a team that is going to fight to compete," he added.
